Contents
The seminar addresses current research topics at the intersection of biometrics and AI. Students select a topic from the areas of biometric recognition, trustworthiness, or attacks and their detection, review the state of the art based on scientific publications, and present their findings in written and oral form.Topics may include:
- Recognition algorithms: e.g. face, iris, fingerprint, or signature recognition
- Trustworthiness in biometric systems: e.g. fairness, privacy (“machine unlearning”), explainability, or uncertainty
- Attacks and detection: e.g. spoofing, morphing, deepfake, or backdoor attacks
Additional information
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:- Research, understand, and critically evaluate current scientific literature in biometrics and artificial intelligence.
- Independently investigate and prepare a specific research topic in the field of biometrics and AI.
- Compare and reflect on methods and concepts for biometric recognition, trustworthiness, attacks on biometric systems and their detection mechanisms.
- Assess and discuss the opportunities, limitations, and ethical implications of AI-based biometric systems.
